…that’s what my dad always said. I was watching cheaply made, mass-produced gear take over the landscapes we hold dear. Places where campers once brought carefully considered, thoughtfully crafted gear were quickly collecting broken pieces of gear not meant to last. We’ve traded the joy of using a dependable, well-built piece of gear for frustration and fragility on the spiraling race to make the cheapest product.
But I found comfort in what my dad said. The German saying roughly translates to “Quality always prevails in the end”. That’s the principle I built HI-ALT on.

Formed by the search for the moment.
The reason we seek remote campsites, endure the elements, and climb mountains is because we are looking for that one moment that makes it all worth it.
That one moment of perfect light at sunset. That one view from the peak. That one moment around the campfire.
That moment is what HI-ALT was created for.
It started with skis.
As ski design started shifting towards uninspiring, one-ski quiver shapes for the mass-market, it felt like we powder skiers had been abandoned. Surrounded by endless snow in the Canadian Pacific Northwest, and convinced that the limits of powder ski design hadn’t been fully explored yet, we set out to make highly specialized shapes designed for the deepest conditions.
After spending a few years making the wildest wild deep powder surfing shapes, HI-ALT migrated to Utah and fell in love with camping in the beautiful landscapes that surround us here. Our focus organically shifted towards camping gear when we couldn’t find gear we liked.
While the products we make have shifted over time, our mission hasn't - forever chasing the moment, challenging the limits of product design, and doing so with a deeply intentional and respectful approach.
Our vision is to build a community of like-minded friends that care as much as we do about the places we go, and believe in gear that belongs. Thank you for being one of us.
